Ferris State Drops 15 Places But Still Listed Among Top 25 Teams

|Ferris State, which features senior catcher Krystle Bailey among others, is ranked 21st in the NFCA's final 2009 regular-season poll.
The Ferris State University softball team will conclude the 2009 regular season ranked 21st in the nation with the latest release (May 6) of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Poll.
The final regular-season poll represents the 11th installment. The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA-II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions. The final 2009 national poll will be released following this year's NCAA-II Softball Championship game (May 21-25) in Salem, Va.
Ferris State, which is currently 33-8 overall this season, accumulated 63 points in this week's poll. North Georgia became the new number-one ranked team this week with 10 first-place votes and 322 points. Alabama-Huntsville moved down from the top spot to fifth place and has one first-place votes with 271 points.
The Bulldogs, under 12th-year head coach Keri Becker, were listed sixth in the previous three (April 15, 22, and 29) NFCA polls.
FSU returns to the diamond this weekend (May 8-10) at the NCAA-II Sub-Midwest Regional Tournament in University Center, Mich. The Bulldogs face Northern Kentucky this Friday (May 8) at 11:30 a.m. (EDT) in first-round action of the double-elimination tournament, which is being held at the SVSU Sports Complex on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University. Ferris State will be making its seventh regional tourney appearance in the program's 37-year history and its fourth trip in the last five years. The Bulldogs captured the 2008 NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Tournament championship and went on to tie for fifth-place honors at the NCAA-II National Softball Championships.
