FERRIS STATE RANKED 25TH IN NFCA PRESEASON POLL

|Sarah Mueller and the Ferris State softball team enter the 2008 season ranked 25th nationally.
The Ferris State University softball team will open its 2008 season ranked 25th in the nation in the 2008 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Preseason Top 25 poll, which was released Wednesday (Jan. 30) by the NFCA.
The national preseason poll was voted on by eight head coaches in Division II representing the eight NCAA regions.
Ferris State received nine points in the poll and finished five points behind Rollins (Fla.). Defending national champion Southern Illinois-Edwardsville earned top honors with 199-points and seven first-place votes. Lock Haven (Conn.) placed second with 189 points and one first-place votes. Rounding out the top five are Columbus State (Ga.), Florida Southern, and Angelo State (Texas).
Joining Ferris State as representatives from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) are Grand Valley State (13th) and Wayne State (20th).
The Bulldogs, under 11th-year head coach Keri Becker, finished the 2007 season at 31-17 overall and made their fourth NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Tournament appearance in the program's history. Ferris State closed out the 2007 campaign ranked 22nd in the NFCA's final Division II poll with 35 points.
Ferris returns seven starters in 2008 from last year's squad, including 2007 Daktronics All-America Third-Team selection Sarah Mueller.
FSU opens the 2008 season March 8-15 at the Florida Rebel Spring Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla., as the Bulldogs play 14 games in seven days.
Ferris' home opener is scheduled for March 26 against Aquinas (Mich.) at the FSU Varsity Softball Field in Big Rapids, Mich. The first game of the non-conference doubleheader will begin at 3:30 p.m. (EST).
