Ferris State's top three points leaders this season -- Kristie Smilanich (14-8=36), Heather O'Keefe (12-4=28), and Tammy Unsworth (8-6=22) have combined for 72.9% (86-118) of the squad's total points output this fall.
Freshman midfielder Megan Stec (Novi) posted the first points of her collegiate career with a pair of assists in Ferris State's win over Northwood (10/14). Stec notched a helper on the last two markers late in the second half of the conference match.
Ferris State's 41 goals this season in 14 matches represents the second-highest single-season total in the program's nine-year history, eclipsing the 40 markers set by the 2003 squad in 17 contests. The school record is 46 which was recorded in 2006. The Bulldogs' 118 points (41-36=118) this campaign also ranks second on Ferris' all-time single-season bests and the 2007 squad is two points shy of equaling the school-record 120 points (46-28=12) total presently established by the 2006 team in 18 outings.
Senior midfielder Nicole Sawada's (Westfield, Ind./Carmel) eight points (2-4=8) in 14 matches this season marks a personal career single-season high, bettering her three-points total (1-1=3) in 16 contests for the 2005 campaign. Sawada's eight points this fall surpasses the combined five points (1-3=5) in her previous three years (2004-06).
Junior forward Tammy Unsworth (White Lake/Walled Lake Northern) has amassed 19 points (7-5=19) in her last eight matches to date, which includes a pair of two-goal efforts against Mercyhurst (10/7) and Northwood (10/14). Unsworth's two goals versus Northwood moved her into 25th place on FSU's career goal-scoring leaders list with 25 career total in 50 appearances.
Kristie Smilanich is three points shy of matching her career single-season best 39 points (18-3=39) set in 18 matches last season. Smilanich, who became FSU's first All-American in the program's history last season by being selected to the 2006 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America First Team, has compiled a team-high 36 points (14-8=36) in 14 matches this campaign to date. She is midst a current four-match points streak with 10 total points (4-2=10) during that span.
Senior forward Heather O'Keefe (Ada/Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central), who's presently fourth among the Bulldogs' career leaders with 61 points (24-13=61) in 50 contests, has produced a career single-season best 28 points (12-4=28) in 14 matches this campaign. Her 28 points is tied for sixth-best ever on the all-time season leaders list with Emily Rogers (2002; 10-8=28) while her 12 goals to date is tied for the fifth most in a season with Tammy Unsworth (2006).
