FSU has dropped four of its last five outings to date this campaign. All five contests have been decided by two goals or less.
The Bulldogs will host Ashland Friday, Oct. 6, starting at 3 p.m. (EDT). The conference contest will be held at the FSU Varsity Soccer Field in Big Rapids, Mich.
FSU is currently midst a stretch featuring six road matches in seven outings. After Ferris' match Friday versus Ashland, the Bulldogs will play four consecutive outings away from home, including three non-conference encounters.
After Friday's contest, the Bulldogs have only one more regular-season home match at the FSU Soccer Field. The final home contest versus archrival Grand Valley State will be Friday, Oct. 27, starting at 4 p.m. (EDT). It will also represent FSU's final regular-season outing of the campaign.
Junior midfielder Kristie Smilanich (Kalamazoo/Christian) presently has totaled a team-high 31 points and 14 goals this season.
Senior goalkeeper Carla Gilbertson (Waunakee, Wis.) moved past Alana Dombrowski's school-record total of 312 career saves with two saves last Friday (Sept. 29) at Gannon. Gilbertson now has a FSU career-record total of 316 saves. Her 31 career wins in net also represent the highest figure in school history.
Kristie Smilanich's 31 total points to date this year represents the program's third-best seasonal performance to date. The 5-6 Smilanich currently has notched 14 goals this season, which is ranked second on the school's single-season goal scoring list.
Sophomore forward Tammy Unsworth (White Lake/Walled Lake Northern) is listed tied for fifth place in points (27) and tied for fourth place in goals (11) among the school's single-season leaders to date.
Ten of Ferris' 12 outings this season have been decided by two goals or less. Six of FSU's last eight contests this year were determined by a single goal with the Bulldogs claiming three of those wins.
The Bulldogs have presently won six of their last eight overtime contests dating back to the 2004 campaign.
Kristie Smilanich has four multiple-goal game efforts to date this campaign while Tammy Unsworth has notched three such efforts.
Ferris had won six consecutive series' contests versus Gannon prior to last Friday's (Sept. 29) setback in Erie, Pa.
Ashland holds a 7-0 series' advantage heading into Friday's meeting with FSU and has
outscored the Bulldogs 28-2 all-time. Last season (10/15/05), the Eagles recorded
a 2-0 triumph at Ashland, Ohio. AU is currently 7-4-1 overall and 2-1 in GLIAC this
campaign entering Friday's tilt.
