BULLDOG GOLF TEAM FINISHES SECOND AT INDIANAPOLIS INVITATIONAL
The Ferris State men's golf team shot a 10-over-par 874 team three-round stroke total to take second-place honors at the Indianapolis Invitational (Sept. 15-16), which was held on the par 72, 7,106-yard The Links at Heartland Crossing Golf Course in Camby, Ind.
The Bulldogs turned in a 288 score in Tuesday's (Sept. 16) final-round play after registering rounds of 288 and 298 in Monday's (Sept. 15) action on the links. FSU ended up four strokes behind tournament champion and host Indianapolis, which paced the 14-team field with a six-over-par 870 score in the 54-hole event. Grand Valley State (879, +15) and Findlay (893, +29) finished third and fourth place, respectively.
Junior Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western) shot 70 on the final day and concluded the tourney with a two-over-par 218 (74-74-70=218) en route to a team-leading fourth-place showing.
Senior Kelbi Lee (Billings, Mont.) tied for sixth place after producing a 220-stroke total (70-74-76=220, +4). Junior Eric Lilleboe (Okemos/Lansing Catholic Central), the 2007-08 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Athlete of the Year, made his season debut and posted a 221 score (72-78-71=221, +5). Tying Lilleboe along with three others for eighth place was sophomore Joe Brown (St. Ignace/LaSalle), who generated a 221-stroke total (76-72-73=221, +5).
Senior Derek Shelburne (Scotts/Vicksburg) captured a three-way tie for 25th place by garnering a 228 score (72-82-74=228, +12).
Redshirt freshman Garrett Simons (Grand Ledge) particpated as a non-scoring individual and netted a 41st-place tying 234-stroke total (77-82-75=234, +18).
