Thelen averaged 31 points, eight rebounds and four assists as the Bulldogs split two games to open the season at the Kentucky Wesleyan Lady Panther Classic this past weekend (Nov. 15-16) in Owensboro, Ky.
The 5-6 Thelen tallied a personal career-high and game-best 36 points and connected on a school single-game record eight three-pointers with nine rebounds and four assists in FSU's season-opening 83-77 triumph over host Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday. She then added a game-high 26 points with seven boards and four assists in Sunday's narrow 68-62 setback against unbeaten (5-0) Indianapolis. Thelen shot 56% (20-36) from the floor in the two games, including an 11-of-20 (.550) effort behind the three-point arc.
Thelen's eight three-pointers versus KWC surpassed former Bulldog Lori Young's school-record seven treys made at Michigan Tech back during the 1992-93 campaign (12/12). Her 36 points also tied for the third-highest single-game figure in Bulldog history while her 67% (8-12) effort behind the arc is the second best mark all-time at FSU.
Thelen was Ferris' second-leading scorer (10.4 ppg.) last season behind departed All-GLIAC First Team pick Rachel Folcik and added 119 rebounds, 85 assists along with 35 steals in starting 25 of 29 games. Her 50 made three-pointers led the squad and ranked as the 10th-best seasonal figure in school history. She also had 19 double-figure scoring games. Thelen currently ranks sixth in school history with 110 career three-pointers made and is among the top 10 performers in school career three-point percentage (.363). Her 86.6% (97-112) career free throw percentage is the best mark in school history to date.
A three-year letterwinner, Thelen scored 10 points or more in 11 games as a sophomore during the 2006-07 season, including four consecutive contests to end the year, as the Bulldogs reached the NCAA-II Sweet Sixteen. To date, Thelen has tallied 633 points along with 304 rebounds in 90 career contests at FSU.
The Bulldog women's basketball team continues its six-game road swing to open the
season by visiting Lewis (Ill.) on Tuesday, Nov. 25, for a 6 p.m. (EST) non-league
game at Romeoville, Ill. The Flyers will be the third-straight Great Lakes Valley
Conference (GLVC) opponent on the Bulldogs' slate to open the campaign.
