ANDREA RICH TABBED AS GLIAC NORTH DIVISON'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
FSU Senior Earns Conference Recognition By Helping Bulldogs Get Off To A 4-1 Start
Ferris State University senior setter-outside hitter Andrea Rich (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) has been chosen as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) North Division Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for her performance this past week as announced Wednesday (Sept. 3) by the conference office.
Rich received the weekly league honor for the first time in her career by finishing last week's five matches with a .330 attack percentage on 41 kills in 91 attack attempts. The 5-10 Rich also contributed 102 assists, 36 digs, eight service aces, and eight total blocks (all block assists) in helping Ferris State get off to a 4-1 start to date for the 2008 season.
The 2007 All-GLIAC Honorable Mention selection registered a triple double versus nationally-ranked Minnesota Duluth last Saturday (Aug. 30) at the Ferris State Invitational in Big Rapids, Mich., with a .417 hitting percentage on 11 kills in 24 chances while producing 25 assists, 10 digs, and two service aces. Rich posted nine kills in the Bulldogs' season-opening triumph over Aquinas last Thursday (Aug. 28) before following up with eight kills apiece in home victories against Indiana, Pa. (Aug. 29) and Wheeling Jesuit (Aug. 29).
A two-time (2006-07) GLIAC All-Academic Team pick, Rich served up a career-high tying five aces versus Indiana, Pa., while garnering 25 assists and nine digs in the non-conference contest. She generated a season-best .533 attack percentage against Wheeling Jesuit (Aug. 29) by hammering eight kills in 15 attempts and also claimed seven digs in the outing en route to earning Ferris State All-Tournament Team recognition.
In her Ferris State career, Rich has amassed 1,489 assists with 496 digs, 97 kills, 64 service aces, 40 block assists, two block assists, and a .242 hitting percentage in 59 matches. The 2008 FSU co-captain is currently ranked 11th among the program's all-time assists leaders and is 63 assists shy of moving into a 10th-place tie with Wendy McCann (1984-87; 1,552 career assists).
Rich and her 2008 Ferris State teammates return to the court this weekend (Sept. 5-6) as the Bulldogs compete in the University of Tampa Classic at Tampa, Fla. FSU takes on Eckerd (Fla.) this Friday (Sept. 5) in its first match of the tourney at 11 a.m. (EDT) before facing Colorado State-Pueblo later in the day at 5 p.m. (EDT). The Bulldogs conclude the tournament this Saturday (Sept. 6) facing Minnesota State in an 11 a.m. (EDT) tilt and then square off against host Tampa at 7 p.m. (EDT).
