GOODSON'S 17 KILLS POWERS FSU TO HOME DECISION OVER LSSU
Sophomore middle hitter Arielle Goodson (Grand Rapids/Central) proved a dominant force for the Ferris State volleyball team in its 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 25-22) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory against Lake Superior State Friday (Oct. 31) afternoon at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Halloween decision improves Ferris State's record to 16-9 overall and 8-5 in the GLIAC to date this season. The Bulldogs have presently won nine of their last 11 matches this fall.
Goodson, who slammed a match-high 17 kills and finished with a .282 attack percentage, also supplied a match-high tying six block assists. Her 17 kills represents a career match-best, eclipsing her 16 kills set in two earlier matches this season -- at Tiffin (10/11) and versus Drury (10/17) at the 2008 Asics GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Volleyball Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind.
Joining Goodson in double-figure kills for Ferris State was junior middle hitter Kristy Gilchrist (Macomb/Anchor Bay), who produced 11 kills and had four block assists as the Bulldogs totaled 11.0 as a team.
Senior setter Candice Marut's (Pinconning) 23 assists marked a match-high tying performance while fellow senior Andrea Rich (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) dished out 18 helpers. Rich paved the way defensively with 20 digs, Marut had 15, and freshman outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) contributed 13 total. LSSU's Brittany Newberry led all players with a match-high 29 digs as the Lakers compiled a 69-team total to Ferris' 78 digs.
Ferris prevailed in the opening set before Lake Superior State turned the tables on won the second set. The Bulldogs came out firing in the third set by hitting .268 and held the Lakers to a .079 average. The fourth set featured three ties and two lead changes as the Bulldogs overcame a 18-10 deficit at one point to tie the set at 22 apiece on junior outside hitter Amanda Kettlewell's (Marysville) kill. Two proceeding kills by Gilchrist and Rich followed by a LSSU attack error sealed the win for Ferris State.
With the win over LSSU, the Bulldogs have now prevailed in 41 of the last 42 meetings between the teams and improved to 32-4 at home in the all-time series.
