FERRIS STATE DISPATCHES IUP TO REMAIN UNBEATEN
Ferris State improved to 2-0 in the young 2008 season as the Bulldogs posted a 25-13, 25-17, 21-25, 25-18 non-conference victory over Indiana (Pa.) this Friday (Aug. 29) afternoon at the Ferris State Invitational in Big Rapids, Mich.
Junior outside hitter Katie Edwards (Cedar Springs) led the way offensively for the Ferris with a match-high 15 kills. Senior outside hitter-setter Andrea Rich (New Baltimore/Anchor Bay) chipped in with eight kills while junior middle hitter Kristy Gilchrist (Macomb/Anchor Bay) contributed seven kills.
Andrea Rich also dished out 25 assists and added a match-best tying five service aces and nine digs as the Bulldogs hit for a .202 clip for the match, which included .308 in the first two sets. Redshirt freshman libero Lisa Tobiczyk (Marysville) turned in a team-leading 22 digs and senior outside hitter-setter Candice Marut (Pinconning) recorded 10 digs to go with 15 assists.
Freshman outside hitter Ashley Huntey (Stanwood/Morley-Stanwood) and sophomore middle hitter Danielle Hamilton (Galesburg/Galesburg-Augusta) each garnered three block assists to lead Ferris State in that statistical category. FSU would limit the Crimson Hawks (0-2 overall) to a .015 attack percentage with 29 kills on 132 attempts.
Ferris State would compile 48 kills in 199 opportunities while totaling seven total team blocks to IUP's 4.5 total. The Bulldogs accumulated 64 digs while the Crimson Hawks racked up a 43-match total.
