FSU ADVANCES TO CCHA QUARTERFINALS TO FACE NOTRE DAME
Winner Of This Weekend's Playoff Series Punches Their Ticket To The 'Joe'
The nationally-ranked Ferris State University men's ice hockey team continues its post-season tournament aspirations this weekend (March 14-16) as the Bulldogs go up against the 12th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish in quarterfinal-round play of the 2008 Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Playoffs at Notre Dame, Ind.
The best-of-three series will be played at the Joyce Center on the Notre Dame campus with games on Friday, March 14 (7:35
p.m.), Saturday, March 15 (7:05 p.m.) and Sunday, March 16 (7:05 p.m.) if necessary. All start times are Eastern Daylight (EDT).

Notre Dame was idle last weekend (March 7-9) as a result of receiving a first-round playoff series bye. The Fighting Irish, who are 22-12-4 overall this campaign to date, earned a first-round bye after placing among the top four teams in the CCHA regular-season standings. Ferris State is the league tournament's fifth seed while Notre Dame is seeded fourth in the tourney. The Bulldogs moved up one spot into 18th place in this week's (March 9) Inside College Hockey.com poll while FSU is listed among other teams receiving votes in both the U.S. College Hockey Online/CSTV and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls this week. Notre Dame is listed 12th in all three of those national college hockey polls.
Ferris State will receive 100 tickets for each game which can be purchased from the FSU Athletics Ticket Office. The ticket office will be open this Tuesday (March 11) from 12-8 p.m. (EDT), Wednesday (March 12) from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (EDT), and Thursday (March 13) from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (EDT).
Cost for single-game tickets are $11 for adults, $6 for youth, and $6 for seniors with the seats being located in the 'end' zones of the rink. The Notre Dame ticket office is offering premium seating for $13 and $7, respectively. Tickets may be purchased by contacting the UND ticket office at (574) 631-7356 or by visiting the Fighting Irish Athletics website at und.com. A charge of $7 per phone order will be assessed.

Each game of the CCHA Playoff Quarterfinal-Round outings will be broadcast live on WWBR Big Country 100.9 FM.
Ferris State improved its overall record to 17-14-5 this season under 16th-year head coach Bob Daniels as the Bulldogs swept past 12th-seed Western Michigan this last weekend (March 7-8) at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Ferris skated to a 4-3 overtime triumph over the Broncos in last Friday's (March 7) opening game and then claimed the best-of-three series with a 6-3 victory in Saturday's (March 8) matchup. The Bulldogs are presently 7-2-2 in their last 11 contests, which includes winning six of its last eight encounters.
The remaining CCHA second-round series have No. 8 Nebraska-Omaha at No. 1 Michigan, No. 7 Bowling Green State at No. 2 Miami (Ohio) and No. 6 Northern Michigan at No. 3 Michigan State. The winners of the four series will advance to the 2008 CCHA Championships (March 21-22), which will be held at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich. The winner of the CCHA Playoff Mason Cup championship game earns the league's automatic NCAA Tournament bid.
Notre Dame and Ferris State met four times during the 2007-08 regular season with the Bulldogs taking the series, 2-1-1. The most recent meeting (Feb. 8-9) between the two teams took place at Notre Dame with Ferris winning the opener by a 5-3 count before skating to a 2-2 overtime deadlock in the finale. FSU suffered a 3-2 loss to the Irish, but then registered a 3-0 decision in game two of league series (Oct. 26-27) in Big Rapids. The two teams have met once before in the CCHA playoffs back in the 1999-2000 season as the Notre Dame prevailed by a 2-1 count in a best-of-three series (March 10-12).
The last time Ferris participated in the CCHA Playoff Quarterfinals was in the 2005-06 campaign (March 10-11) when the Bulldogs were swept in two games (6-4 and 3-2) by Michigan at UM's Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich.
